January 11, 2010 - News

(VNA) An association to bring young Vietnamese people and students who are learning and working in Washington together has been set up to support them and help preserve Vietnamese culture.

On addressing the launching ceremony on January 10, the Vietnamese Ambassador to the US , Le Cong Phung, described the setting up of the association as an important event for the entire Vietnamese community in the US .

He said that he hoped the association would act as a model for the setting up of similar associations in other regions of the US as well as a general association for all young Vietnamese people in North America .

At the function, 60 young Vietnamese people currently living in Washington registered to join the association.

It plans to organise a culinary festival in February and hold football and tennis tournaments this summer.

To mark the millennium anniversary of Thang Long-Hanoi in October, the association will host a fashion show featuring designs by young Vietnamese people living in the US./.
